ICT & Animation

HND Media (Creative Digital Technology) was an innovative course in 1996, designed to offer the creative skills and technical abilities needed in the new digital media. The course was superseded in 1999 by the BA (Hons) Multimedia Design and Digital Animation degree course.

It was felt at the time that as digital media continued to grow and develop, the computer was becoming accepted as a tool for artistic expression. However, there was a need for these technical skills to be combined with traditional design and animation. The degree course aimed to give students those essential skills and encourage them to be used in an innovative and experimental way.

Multimedia is a fast-changing area and this course is soon to be replaced by a degree course in digital games design.

IT Training began in 1992 when a Desktop Publishing evening course was offered to the public. This was subsequently extended to a small group of full-time students within the college. Other programs, including image handling and computer art were added. Later, students were expected to attend all IT training sessions and achieve the relevant qualifications.

A pilot scheme is now being considered to include IT into Study Skills Modules and these skills will form part of the transferable skills needed for employment, or further academic development.
