Friends & the Community

Through professional development, volunteering and external work with clients, the College has endeavoured to support and work with a range of professional and residential groups in Cumbria. These groups have included farming communities, sports associations, migrant workers, special interest groups and many sectors of the creative arts community.

For individuals wishing to develop creative businesses the College has supported the Framework for Accelerating Creative Enterprise (FACE) programme through Cumbria Cultural Skills Partnership (CCSP), the creative business training course with Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and graphic design work for Cumbrian festivals in association with Cumbria Vision, as well as many others.

The College has worked alongside organisations such as Cumbria Arts in Education and Creative Partnerships to help develop the arts in all its different aspects in Cumbrian schools. Through these links we have had the opportunity to help young people participate in arts activities as well as helping the creative industries within Cumbria grow and prosper.

The College provided substantial support to the Carlisle Pageant in the 1970s and the Carlisle Community play in the 1980s. In August 2005 the College produced a series of Mystery Plays in the wonderful setting of Carlisle Cathedral, performed by a team of professional and graduate actors.

A new MA in Community Arts, supported by professional staff from Lanternhouse in Ulverston and Theatre by the Lake in Keswick began with a strong cohort of students in October 2007.
